Dr. Wilfredo López-Ojeda

Wake Forest School of Medicine

Dr. López-Ojeda is currently a Neuroscientist-Neuroanatomist and Assistant Director for Education, Research & Academic Affairs at the VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Salisbury, NC, where runs the Extended Reality Neuroanatomy Laboratory. Dr. López-Ojeda joined the VAMC, Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC, VISN 6) in August 2020 from the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine in California, where he was founding faculty and head clinical anatomist. Prior to this involvement, he held a similar position at the University of Central Florida School of Medicine (UCF-COM) for nearly fourteen years. In addition to his academic and scholarly contributions, Dr. López-Ojeda has a robust imaging background from the Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) in Florida, where he acted as Director of the Radiology and Imagining Services. Dr. López-Ojeda is a published author of multiple works in clinical anatomy, physiology, and neurosciences. His works include
scientific manuscripts, textbooks and laboratory manuals integrating basic and clinical sciences.
Some of his recent articles cover the metaverse technologies (e.g., virtual reality and extended
reality) in the context of medical education, medicine and clinical neuroscience and neuropsychiatry. He also serves as an editor and reviewer of reputable scientific platforms and
journals. He has presented scholarly and scientific works at many conferences, professional
forums, and medical schools (nationally and internationally). In addition, he holds faculty
appointments at Wake Forest School of Medicine (WFSM) and Virginia College of Osteopathic
Medicine (VCOM), where teaches residents, medical and graduate students.
